A lot has changed for me ever since the so-called "Hell Week" passed. If you think "Hell Week" was the exam week, you're wrong. It was the week where I had 5 contiguous deadlines of assignments to be handed up. Yeah. One on every day of the week, except maybe Sunday. If you look at it in another perspective, it WAS kinda cool. Excluding the screaming, the intensive programming, the late nights till 5AM, yeah, I'd say it was pretty cool.
As a matter of fact, for my Biological Information Retrieval module, my friend and I got our projects selected for the IT Showcase in the upcoming July. My lecturer wanted us to complete and refine our DNA sequencing search by end of June. I didn't really know if he really means it. The showcase, that is. But it does seems like I'll be having my holidays scheduled for this assignment.
Then during that period, I received a letter from the school saying I was awarded the Excellence Service Award. I didn't really expect that. I mean, I knew my club nominated me, but for me to be selected, to me it was like one in a million. The award ceremony will be on 19th May, but unfortunately, my parents can't make it. So I got my club president and advisor to attend it.
Exam week came, and it started off pretty badly. How badly? Well, I missed my first paper. I guess that's bad enough. Not that I overslept or anything, but I was so confident the paper was at 2PM that day that I woke up at 7AM and studied till 10AM. Then I had a glance at my exam slip, and realized the paper was at 9AM! I didn't really panicked (Okay okay, I really panicked, I almost cried.) and called up my parents. They told me to get an MC, which I did, and dutifully submitted it to the Examination Office. Looks like I'll be taking at least 1 supplementary paper this June.
Some people who know about my plight goes, "Oh, poor thing," or "What a waste, this sem last sem got supp paper," or anything around that. But looking at it on the bright side, this IS the last time the school will be having supplementary paper, and since I have never taken one before, this is my chance to have a feel of it. Anyway, my paper will be graded. I think.
The fun in my life started immediately after the last paper had ended. All the guys in my class (except for one) gathered together and we decided to watch a movie. Tough luck. When we reached Cineleisure, it was fully booked. So we walked to Plaza Singapura. Also fully booked. We ended up playing arcade, LAN gaming and pool. But it was fun. I'd like to refer that as "Guys Gone Wild", without the dirty stuff.
The following Monday, 10th May, my class had a briefing for our upcoming FYP in the next semester. I have more or less confirmed my group earlier this year, and upon given the choices for our projects, well, we were quite stunned. To sum up the projects, there are 5 of them. Molecular viewer, Drug docking system, Drug data mining, Molecular energy calculator and one external project collaborated with a Japanese university. It was widely rumoured that my group will get the external project, because well, my group is more of what they would call "Cream of the crop". You see, there are 5 members. Tracy, she's good in art. Novia and Daniel, both Indonesians, are very good in Biology and theory stuffs. and there's Yaomin and me, the two most craziest programmers in class who can do programming non-stop for 6 hours in the wee hours of the morning. We have an all-rounder team. Specially picked by Yaomin and me, we concluded this would be the ideal group for FYP. Too ideal, it seems. The external project looks like a killer, and high chances are, we're taking it. But only time will tell (I mean 28th May).
Other than the FYP briefing, that week, freshies came down to school to register, so my club had a booth set up to pull in new people into the club. Kinda fun, I think. Looking at the amount of paperwork I have to do over the weekend, I have reversed that thought. It's gonna be a hell of a weekend for me and my Administration partner.
No post-exams week is completed without games, games and more games. Other than doing my assignment, I have been gaming for 5 hours straight until 4AM EVERYDAY. Yeah, now THAT'S fun. Of course, the only reason why I am able to do this currently is because of my dad going overseas to Belgium for a business seminar. A full week. He'll be back this Sunday, and although I had so much fun gaming, I'm really looking forward to seeing him back here in Singapore. At least I'll have someone to scold me when I do something wrong, or force me to go out at night to 7-Eleven to buy bread and Coke. My mum hadn't really been scolding my siblings and I this week. Coming to think of it, never. Somehow this week, we were all nice wonderful kids. We'll see how it goes when my dad comes back.
I know I haven't really been blogging much since last month, but hey, I'll try to remind myself now. The only reason I suddenly remembered to blog tonight is because I'm waiting for my friend to call so that we can continue gaming till 4AM again. Oh wait, there's a call on my HP...
*5 mins later*
Finally. Time to kick some virtual ass.
Can I say "ass"?
Oops.
